The main focus is on classes for complete beginners, beginners, intermediate and advanced players, in addition we have planned the following attractions:

• The combination of bodhranmaker Christian Hedwitschak and tippermaker Stevie Moises was very successful at the bodhran weekend anniversary, so we invited them again!:

• Christian Hedwitschak will be available for repairs, help and talks about bodhran making.
• Tippermaker Stevie Moises will bring his mobile lath for live tipper turning.

• Taketina for bodhrán players. Dörte Kamphausen, Taketina teacher, gave us a nice introduction into the world of the Taketina rhythms at our last weekend in Proitze. So that people in the South also have a chance to experience Taketina, we invited her again. All about Taketina can be found here and here
• The Band for Saturday night is a real newcomer: Cosán unites Steffen Gabriel (flute, whistle, accordion, vocals), Barbara Hintermeier (fiddle, vocals) and bodhran virtuosa Michaela Grüß (vocals, bodhrán, piano), three musicians that played at the BodhranWeekends before (Woodpark and Nua) and if you remember the brilliant concerts of Nua and Woodpark, you get an idea of what to expect! Also in Cosán is Brian Haitz on guitar, bouzouki, flute, whistle and vocals. Soundsamples here!
• The traditional whiskey tasting will take place surely!

Lessons
The lessons are appropriate for all playing levels: From complete beginners to advanced players who look for new tipps and tricks. After a short introduction of the bodhran playing techniques are the main focus of the lessons, but also playing in sessions, structures of Irish music and accompaniment patterns are part of the schedule. Music examples are used to show different rhythms in Irish music and also to show different playing styles for the bodhran. Bodhrans are provided during the lessons for those who don't have drum (yet).

supporting program
The weekends are not lessons only, but also include a supporting program that deals with different aspects of the drum: There is always a presentation about e.g. the history of the drum or drum making or tipper making, someimes supported by external experts like bodhran maker Christian Hedwitschak. On Saturday night there is a concert of Irish music usually followed a session where attendees can try out the new things they have learned.

Also, the BodhranWeekends give you the unique opportunity to try out, compare and buy bodhrans by different makers and lots of accessories.

Saturday, 23.09.2012 will see a concert, this year featuring newcomers Cosán.
Usually we all get together for a session after the concert!

Place
The Kuckucksnests (Cuckoo's Nest) consists of two comfortable guest houses about 200 m apart. Designed especially for groups, it combines plenty of space for group activities with a good standard of comfort and service. It is situated in a lovely area roughly north-east of Frankfurt, easily reached by car, train, or bus.
Money
Early bird special (until 21.7.2012) is 200€, normal price (23.07.2012 - 07.09. 2012) 210€ and late booking (from 07.09. 2012) is 230€. This includes lodging and food (breakfast, lunch, coffee break, dinner, no drinks), the classes and the entertainment. Payment is transferred to the account specified during registration online. For non-german participants money can be paid at the event. Accommodation is provided in double rooms (preferable for couples) and in up to 5-bed dormitories. We will try to provide the rooms wanted but we cannot give a guarantee. Please bring sheets.

Im Mittelpunkt stehen Kurse für Anfänger, fortgeschrittene Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene, einige Attraktionen aus dem Jubiläumsjahr werden uns aber erhalten bleiben:

• Tippermaker Stevie Moises wird mit seiner mobilen Drehbank vor Ort sein!
• Die Verlosung einer Flasche Whiskey und diverser Bodhrán Artikel bleibt bestehen!
• Für die Session nach dem Konzert haben wir einige hochkarätige Musiker gewinnen können.

Die Kosten
Die Kosten für das BodhranWochenende sind gestaffelt nach Anmeldungszeitpunkt. Frühbucher werden belohnt: Für Frühbucher (bis 15.12.2011) kostet das gesamte Wochenende 200 EURO, Normalbucher (16.12.2011 - 30.01. 2012) zahlen 210€ und Spätbucher (ab 01.02. 2012) zahlen 230 €.

Im Preis sind die Übernachtungen mit voller Verpflegung ohne Getränke (reichhaltiges Frühstücksbüffet, Mittagessen, Kaffee & Kuchen und Abendbrot), die Kursgebühren (incl. ev. Leihinstrumente) sowie das Rahmenprogramm komplett enthalten.
Die Unterbringung erfolgt in Doppel- bis Fünferzimmern, wobei die Doppelzimmer bevorzugt an Paare abgegeben werden. Wir werden versuchen, alle Zimmerwünsche zu berücksichtigen, können aber keine Garantie geben, das jeder in seinem Wunschzimmer unter kommt. Bettwäsche sollte mitgebracht werden oder muß vor Ort für 4,00 Euro ausgeliehen werden.

Mit der Anmeldung müssen 120 Euro Anzahlung per Überweisung geleistet werden. Die Kontodaten werden automatisch nach der Anmeldung übermittelt. Der Rest wird am Wochenende in bar bezahlt. Nur wer 120,00 Euro überweist, hat auch einen sicheren Platz, ansonsten gibt es keine Ansprüche.
Bei Absage bis einen Monat vor der Veranstaltung (spätestens bis einschl. den 17.01.2012) erstatten wir das Geld vollständig zurück. Bei Absage vom 17.01.2012 – einschl. 31.01.2012 erheben wir eine Bearbeitungsgebühr von 40 Euro und überweisen den Restbetrag der Anzahlung zurück. Bei Absage vom 01.02.2011 bis zum 17.02.2011 müssen wir den vollen Anzahlungsbetrag einbehalten, es gibt keine Rückzahlung.
Ausnahme: Durch eine eventuelle Warteliste rückt ein anderer Interessent auf den frei werdenen Platz nach oder von der zurücktretenen Person wird ein Ersatz gestellt. Es können keine Rabatte für auswärts schlafende Personen eingeräumt werden und auch bei kürzerer Teilnahme müssen wir den vollen Preis berechnen.

Masterclass with Eamon Murray: What a great success! Thanks to Eamon, everybody loved his teaching and people were raving about his skills on the bodhran and also about his teaching skills (not so much about the table tennis skills, I heard..;-)).

The aim of this collaboration by these two exceptional musicians is to demonstrate the extensive possibilities of the instrument. "Bodhrán Insight" comprises of 18 tracks on which the Irish rhythm produced on the bodhrán is the main feature. The CD has a running time of 78 minutes and is mostly a compilation of tracks from various recordings which featured Guido or Rolf. However, it does also include previously unreleased tracks which feature the bodhrán as a solo instrument. Despite the large following and lovers of this drum, there has been to date very few productions dedicated solely to the bodhrán. In addition to the accompaniment of songs, the focal point of the bodhrán is to support what's known in the industry as "sets" of tunes. The comprehensive booklet includes explanations as to what they are playing, or the idea behind what they are playing for each of these sets, sharing with the listener an insight into their methods and techniques.

For anybody wanting to experience versatility in bodhrán playing this CD is a must. It is not only fascinating to listen to these two musicians, but also impressive to hear their high standard of playing. As Johnny Mc Donagh from the group De Danann put it: "I am impressed and delighted with how the standard of bodhrán playing has developed and improved in Germany. This is in no small way due to the excellent teaching of Guido and Rolf. Fair play to ye, Lads!" or in the words of Beoga's Eamon Murray: "Together and in their own wonderful ways they have taken bodhrán playing to a dizzying new height around the globe. A fine pair of German Paddys! Now, sit back, put your feet up and let the lads do what they do best - show the drum who's boss!"

The BodhranWeekend at 11th-13th of February 2011 is our tenth anniversary! We started the BodhranWeekends in February 2002 and there were two weekends per year ever since. We want to celebrate with all participants, so this time the usual BodhranWeekend program will be slightly different.

Everybody is welcome! You don't have to be a long time participants, all levels of players are welcome!

Attention: The weekend is  fully booked. We have a waiting list, if you want to get a place on the waiting list just sign up and we will let you know if we got a free space. First come, first serve.

The main focus stays on classes for complete beginners, beginners, intermediate and advanced players, in addition we have planned the following attractions:

• Eamon Murray as a guest teacher
• Buffet and Party Friday night. Large warm buffet by the Proitzer Mühle, party, slide show of the last ten years and a few more suprises.
• Raffle of a high quality drum by Christian Hedwitschak among all participants at no extra costs!
• Christian Hedwitschak will be available all weekend for repairs, help and talks about bodhran making.
• Tippermaker Stevie Moises will bring his mobile lath for live tipper turning.
• Physiotherapy for bodhran player: Physiotherapist Susi Oed is around to give free massages and manipulations to players during the intermissions. In a short presentation she will give us ideas of how to improve our playing from a physio's point of view.
• Rebate: If you attend the BodhranWeekend three times incl. this anniversary weekend, you will get 10% off the next weekend you attend!
